From Persecuting Bnei Torah to a Palestinian State: The Price of Spitting on the Torah

As Western governments—including the UK, Canada, and Australia—prepare to commit an act of historic treachery by recognizing a so-called “Palestinian state” at the UN General Assembly, we must stop and ask: why now? Why, after Hashem gave us open miracles against Hezbollah and Iran, is the world suddenly turning against Israel with such fury?

The answer is not political—it is spiritual.

HaGaon HaRav Moshe Maya, member of the Moetzet Chachmei HaTorah, explained in a Kol Baramah interview:

“Until now we had tremendous yeshuos. Even the IDF Chief of Staff and Defense Minister, who were not highly regarded, experienced extraordinary Siyata Dishmaya. All this was until they arrested one ben yeshivah. From the moment they put a Torah learner in handcuffs, a political tsunami was unleashed against Israel. Hakadosh Baruch Hu is telling them: If you don’t want the Siyata Dishmaya of the Torah, then manage without Me.”

This is the bitter irony, the ultimate chutzpah of the State: while declaring lomdei Torah to be criminals and threatening to jail yeshiva bochurim unless they submit to the army, Hashem turns the tables and lets the nations of the world treat Israel like the criminal. As Rav Maya put it, “The nations of the world are afraid when there is Torah in Israel.” When Torah is honored, there is protection. When Torah is attacked, there is backlash.

A Call to Stand Firm

Rav Maya also ruled clearly on the conscription issue:

“The first principle I stand on is that Bnei Torah are exempt. That is the psak of the Rambam, and no one disputes him. This applies even in the case of a milchemes mitzvah.”

He called for an urgent meeting of the Moetzet and all leading Torah councils to issue a united, unequivocal psak: it is absolutely forbidden to violate Din Torah and touch bnei yeshivos.

Our Thoughts

What we are witnessing is mida k’neged mida, measure for measure. When a Jewish state dares to call Torah learners criminals, the world suddenly brands that same State a criminal and rushes to grant legitimacy to terrorists. This is no coincidence—it is Hashem’s way of showing us that without Torah, there is no protection, no respect, no future.

The message is clear: stop persecuting Bnei Torah, or watch the nations line up against you. What goes around, comes around.
