Mercaz Magen U’Moshiah: Standing Guard for Every Ben Torah
The persecution of lomdei Torah in Eretz Yisrael has reached a shocking new low. This week, six bnei yeshiva—whose only “crime” was dedicating their lives to Torah learning—were arrested and thrown into prison.
United Torah Judaism MK Meir Porush has been holding a hunger strike outside the office of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, protesting this outrageous assault on our mesorah. And now, his son, former Elad mayor Yisrael Porush, has been appointed to lead the fight on the ground as chairman of Mercaz Magen U’Moshiah, a new national defense center for bnei yeshiva targeted by the authorities.
This powerful initiative was established under the direct guidance of Gedolei Yisrael to be the operational arm (yad arichta) of their daas Torah. The goal: to protect every ben Torah, to respond quickly and decisively to harassment and arrests, and to give families the backing they need in this time of fear.
Those involved in the founding of the center did not mince words:
“This is a gezeirah. Bochurim who have never broken a single civil law are suddenly treated like criminals—hunted for the ‘sin’ of limud Torah. Parents live in dread, wondering if their sons will be dragged away without warning.”
Mercaz Magen U’Moshiah will:
- Place trained legal representatives on the front lines to defend detained bochurim
- Establish preparedness and guidance systems in every yeshivah
- Provide immediate emotional and financial support to affected families
- Operate a 24/7 emergency hotline for urgent cases
- Mobilize public relations and advocacy to fight the false narratives and expose the injustice
Staffed by skilled attorneys, veteran PR professionals, rabbonim, educators, therapists, and a nationwide network of volunteers, the center is ready to act at a moment’s notice.
This is not only about defending six boys. It’s about defending the dignity of the Torah, the honor of Klal Yisrael, and the freedom of every ben Torah to learn without fear.
