We all know that in our country we have been living in exile for many years. Today we feel, more than ever, the burden of that exile and the weight of the decrees placed upon us.
We are forced to endure a decree—one that tragically pits Jew against Jew, as so many pursue their fellow Jews because of it. And here in our own land, we are caught in the middle of this very decree. Rahmana litzlan (may Hashem have mercy). It is a bitter reminder that we are still in exile.
But we must understand: this decree is a test from Hashem. He has placed it upon us so that we may show our strength and unity, standing together as one people. We must not allow ourselves to be swayed by the decrees of the authorities, nor should anyone enlist, G-d forbid, without the permission of our Torah leaders. Whoever is arrested or pressured has an obligation to resist and not to yield in any way to joining the army.
Rahmana litzlan—we are Hashem’s people. Our fathers gave their lives for Torah and Judaism, and we must declare to the world that the Torah is our very life. A Jew cannot abandon it. To enlist is to go against the Torah of Moshe Rabbeinu and against the rulings of our sages throughout all generations.
Each of us must stand firm, without being tempted by promises or intimidated by threats. We are the nation of Hashem, and we must remain faithful to what He has commanded us.
We are living in a time of severe trial, a test of our faith. But we must not weaken. With Hashem’s help, we will stand strong in our emunah (faith), and He will deliver us from this bitter decree and swiftly bring the redemption.
